About Savings Snips

What this site is

Savings Snips is a plain guide to where U.S. food prices are expected to go. It shows the USDA Economic Research Service’s published food price forecasts for each food category, with their forecast intervals, and how the department’s past forecasts compared with what was later published.

Forecasts and figures come from the USDA Economic Research Service Food Price Outlook; ERS updates them monthly. Earlier versions of this site published material that was not drawn from any real source. It has been removed and replaced.

The source is the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service, Food Price Outlook. ERS updates the outlook every month.

The figures on this site were fetched on 2026-09-28 (UTC) and are shown as published at that date. ERS revises and updates its outlook monthly, so the current published figures may now differ from the ones shown here.

What the data is

The forecast and history files behind this site are the ERS current food price outlook (consumer price indexes and producer price indexes), the previously published forecast estimates, and the published annual percent changes. Each page names the record it is drawn from and links to it.
